While it wasn’t ready for primetime this past spring, New World is prepared to make a big splash when it arrives later this summer. Amazon Game Studios announced during the PC Gaming Show today that the colonial-era MMORPG is scheduled to launch globally on August 25th.

Prior to that date, New World will run a closed beta test starting on July 23rd. Players who pre-order the title are slated to join the beta and get a few extra goodies as well, including a fist bump emote (yo), an amulet, a title, and a guild crest set.

New World originally was a PvP-focused game, but a while back Amazon shifted the design to allow for a greater amount of PvE content. Even so, territory wars and 100-player battlefields are being held up as some of the key features for this MMO. The studio’s been ramping up publicity for the game over the past month, sharing details about boss encounters, loot and gear, character progression, housing, and crafting.
