One of the later events scheduled for this year has still been claimed by the global pandemic; Final Fantasy XIV’s fan festival scheduled for November in San Diego has now officially been cancelled, according to a new letter from producer and director Naoki Yoshida. He explains that while the event is half a year away and plans had been made, it ultimately didn’t appear to be possible to handle the event in a way that was safe for both fans and staff; however, plans are being put into motion to hold an alternative event in the start of 2021 for North American fans, with the European and Japanese fan festivals still currently planned to occur.

In more immediate news, the development team is also still working on patch 5.3, which was originally planned for a release on June 16th. At this point, Yoshida is certain that the patch will be delayed by more than a month, but the staff is working to keep that delay as short as possible, with a new release date due for announcement soon. So it does mean you’ll have to wait a little bit longer, but it also means that the team is working hard to still deliver new things while staying safe.
