Fans of Borderlands 3 will have to wait a little while longer than expected for the Takedown at the Guardian Breach to arrive for the FPS-RPG, as 2K and Gearbox have chosen to delay the content as a show of support for the recent international protests against racial inequality.

Borderlands' Takedown missions are free for all existing players and have raid-style mechanics and rewards, and Gearbox has typically launched them between the game's larger DLC content drops. The Guardian Breach mission was set to arrive today alongside a set of balance modifications and updates for the game's Mayhem endgame modes, but the developer has opted to hold off on releasing the newest patch for a few days, citing respect for the needs of the Black Lives Matter movement.

Gearbox and 2K's announcement also came with the news that the publisher would put an additional $1 million into funding its 2K Foundations program, with the goal of "fighting racial injustice and inequalities in black communities across the globe." While missing out on new content is unfortunate, the delay isn't without a good cause behind it, and the chances are strong that most fans will be just fine with waiting a short while longer.

2K isn't the only publisher to put its business on hold this week in solidarity with the recent protests; Sony has delayed a set of PS5 reveals that were set for this week, and Epic has delayed the launch of its new Fortnite season as well.

A new date for the Takedown at the Guardian Breach wasn't announced, but fans can likely expect the new content to arrive in Borderlands 3 before the Bounty of Blood DLC drops on June 25, or at the same time. Until then, last month's Revenge of the Cartels event, which was originally set to wrap up today, is still available for players looking for a second chance at getting the top-tier gear included, and fans just getting into the series can get themselves up to speed with the Handsome Collection, which was a recent free giveaway on the Epic Games Store.

Borderlands 3 is out now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
