Magic: Legends Devs Dive Into Realms, Talk Class Progression

Lands, Mana Vaults, and the Arcane Library Bolster Progression and Customization

Magic: Legends has released new information regarding class progression and traits as well as giving a deeper dive into Realms and character advancement via two seperate articles.

The first article titled Diving Into Realms explores the concept of how Realms connect to character progression and advancement of the skill system.

Once a player unlocks their Realm, they will steadily gain access to several workstations. Each of these stations serves a unique function, but their cumulative impact places the Planeswalker power fantasy squarely in the player’s hands."

Players will have access to an Aetheric core which will act like a central workstation to their Realm. No other workstation can progress past the level of their Aerhteric core, so it is in a player's best interest to invest into this key pillar of their Realm.

The second article, Class Progression and Traits, discusses ability upgrades, class perks, and traits.

It all begins with the player selecting a starting class. "This choice determines the initial play style of their character as well as their combat abilities and innate benefits. This decision will also determine each player’s starting deck of spells. The great thing about this is that it is truly only the beginning of the player’s journey as a planeswalker. Closer to release, we’ll discuss how players can unlock more classes. "

So like a Final Fantasy game, players will be able to unlock additional classes and swap over to level individual classes. The article also talks about Ability Upgrades that let players modify their Primary, Secondary, or Utility abilities which sound an awful lot like Diablo III's skill upgrade system. Additionally, Class Perks are passive bonuses that provide class-specific boosts to enhance the player, like gaining shield whenever you cast Sorcery.

If you're excited for more on Magic; Legends, they announced a Closed Alpha coming later THIS MONTH! Sign-ups have already closed, but it's not too late to sign up for their Closed Beta test happening later this year.
