Sony announces that the PlayStation 5 event, originally scheduled for this coming Thursday, has been postponed. It reportedly had a total runtime of 2.5 hours, with at least 1 hour of that dedicated to the reveal of PS5 games.

Sony details its decision to step back and allow more important voices to be heard, although this does come out after invitations for the PS5 event were sent out on PS4. Some did think that Sony would likely go this way, but due to the invites, this comes off as a bit surprising.

While the company does not directly state this, the reason for the delay is clear with cities around the nation protesting the death of George Floyd, among others, and police brutality. Sony and several other companies have issued statements on the matter, with the protests having a profound impact on the world as a whole, including the gaming industry.

Sony did not reveal a new date for the PS5 event, but given that everything is already together, it likely won't be too long. As Sony stated here, it wants to wait out and let the more important things be heard first.

The PS5 releases Holiday 2020.
