Animal Crossing: New Horizons update 1.2.1 makes some minor changes to the game, most of which probably won't be noticed by players. Small updates like this one are common in video games, although they can be somewhat disappointing for fans expecting something bigger.

With the Museum Day event wrapping up, Animal Crossing: New Horizons players can now look forward to Wedding Season. The 1.2.1 update happened smack dab in the middle of May, so fans may be able to expect another update coming soon during early to mid June. Whether the next update will be small like this one remains to be seen, however.

The patch notes are very vague this time around, consisting of only one item which is listed as a general update. This general update is simply fixing some ambiguous issues to ensure a positive player experience. While that is all fine and dandy, it isn't entirely clear what that means.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons Ver 1.2.1 Patch Notes

General updates

  • Addressed issues to further ensure an enjoyable gaming experience.

While this doesn't pinpoint any particular issues that have been addressed, some fans may have noticed that the item duplication glitch no longer works. This was likely the main purpose for the update, as being able to duplicate items in Animal Crossing is extremely game breaking. Still, it is interesting that Nintendo says that the removal of this and other glitches will "ensure an enjoyable gaming experience," as there are no doubt those that enjoyed the ability to duplicate items.

It comes down to game balance and playing the game as intended. If players are able to duplicate items freely, any sort of challenge or purpose found in the game dissipates. Money would no longer be an issue, and users would be able to burn through certain events much faster than players going through it the right way. There are no doubt other bugs and glitches that were fixed as well, but this is the most noteworthy one that fans have noticed since installing the update.

Of course, players will need the update in order to use any of Animal Crossing: New Horizons's online features, so installing it should be a priority for those that haven't yet. It is relatively small and shouldn't take long, and for most it likely downloaded automatically. If it didn't install automatically, go to the game's icon on the Switch menu and press the plus button to manually download and install the patch.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available now exclusively for Nintendo Switch.
