Many Persona fans are still exploring the new features and areas that were added in Persona 5 Royal, an expanded version of the base game. However, one of the series' spin-off manga is about to come to a close, sad as that may be.

Persona 5 has more than one spin-off manga, or Japanese comic books. The main manga, which is simply titled Persona 5, is still ongoing and is being translated for English-speaking audiences by Viz Media. The manga in question here, however, is Persona 5: Mementos Mission.

Persona 5: Mementos Mission will be coming to a close in Japan on June 27th in Dengeki Maoh magazine and will then be compiled into the third and final volume on July 27th. Persona 5: Mementos Mission deviates from the game's original story, telling the tales of the Phantom Thieves of Hearts' various missions in Mementos, the shared cognitive 'palace' or world that everyone shares. The Phantom Thieves target smaller-scale criminals and miscreants in Mementos that have harmed others or otherwise upset society on some level, which is a major feature in Persona 5.

Back in 2019, Yen Press announced that it would be translating Persona 5: Mementos Mission alongside another spin-off manga, Persona 5 A La Carte. However, this announcement was rescinded, as Yen Press apparently didn't acquire the rights to translate these two books and the announcement was a mistake. Since then, no other translation companies have acquired the rights, and the manga remains untranslated - except by fans - for English-speaking audiences.

Now that Persona 5: Mementos Mission is coming to an end, it's possible that this may change in the future. Having a completed series of volumes to translate may appeal more to translation companies, especially with a manga series as short as three volumes. And Persona's popularity is only growing in the meantime. Rumors continue to circulate about a potential Persona 6, and fans are excited about what it could potentially bring to the series.

Surprisingly, despite the series' popularity, Atlus still hasn't announced an English translation for Persona 5 Scramble, the direct follow-up and sequel to Persona 5. On the plus side, if these various media spin-offs of the original game eventually get greenlit for translation, fans will be able to continue enjoying the Persona 5 universe for quite a while.

Persona 5 Royal is available now for PS4.
