Minecraft Dungeons is great because there are very few mistakes players can make that are permanent. Almost everything in the game can be earned back or undone, meaning that players don't have to feel bad about experimenting with builds. Creating a fun or powerful build is half the joy of the game, so players looking for inspiration on how to do so need look no further. The key is to find equipment, enchantments, and artifacts that synergize well with each other and then make the most of those synergies to the best of one's abilities.

For those unaware, Minecraft Dungeons features no classes or skill trees. Instead, characters are defined by the equipment they choose to wear. The reversible nature of Minecraft Dungeons' advancement system makes it easy to try things out, resulting in a lot of cool builds being seen and used throughout the game. Having a great build isn't required to succeed by any means, but is sure is a lot of fun and will help a lot on higher difficulties and the final few levels. With that in mind, here are some fun builds that new players can work towards depending on what gear and artifacts they find during their journey.

Minecraft Machine Gun

Minecraft Dungeons Butterfly Crossbow

This build is centered around the Repeating Crossbow (or the Butterfly Crossbow for those lucky enough to find it) ranged weapon, which has low damage but high rate of fire. Under normal circumstances, this wouldn't be too great as arrows are limited and making each one count is important, but paired with the right enchantments it can be devastating. The most important thing to do is to get Infinity on the crossbow, which will give it a high chance to not expend any arrows when fired (it's still important to search for treasures to get arrows, though). After this, the second enchantment slot should be used on something which allows it to strike multiple enemies, such as Ricochet, Multishot, or most preferably, Piercing.

Pick an armor which boosts ranged damage or grants additional arrows such as the Hunter's Armor or the Archer's Armor, and choose as many quiver type artifacts as the player has available (Fireworks Arrow, Flaming Quiver, and Torment Quiver). For the melee weapon, pick something that gathers souls so as to fuel the Torment Quiver artifact. Infinity synergizes well with the quiver artifacts, as if it triggers it won't expend the artifact use. In this way, several arrows in a row can be Firework Arrows with enough luck, and players will be capable of unleashing a ridiculous amount of arrows on things sustainably thanks to Infinity. This is particularly useful against certain boss enemies that are hard to get close to.

Am I the Bad Guy?

Minecraft Dungeons Corrupted Beacon

"Am I the bad guy?" plays off the age old trope of players wondering whether it is in fact their character that is in the wrong, something which is frequently brought up in relation to the standard Minecraft game. This build focuses on souls, and will see the player using the souls of their fallen foes to sew further destruction and mayhem. For armor, players will want to use the Soul Robe, and if that isn't available, the Phantom armor or Grim armor work as well. Pick any weapons with bonuses to soul gathering, although certain ones like the Soul Knife and the Feral Soul Crossbow give +2 soul gathering and are preferred.

For artifacts, players will want to choose three that require souls to use, as they are typically very powerful. Good choices include the Corrupted Beacon for high damage to enemies in a line, the Soul Healer to help out in a pinch, and the Harvester for gathering yet more souls and a method of dealing with enemies grouped around the player like during the Redstone Monstrosity boss fight. With this, so long as the player keeps their souls up, they will be able to deal some crazy damage to enemies.

Thor, God of Thunder!

Minecraft Dungeons Thunder Hammer

The promotional material seemed to enjoy pointing out that players could get a hammer that zaps stuff with lightning, so it was inevitable that players would try to make this work. There are two ways to accomplish this build, although one is more potent than others. The easiest way is to take any Greathammer weapon and enchant it with the common enchantment Thundering. This will cause the weapon to have a chance to chain lightning to enemeis whenever it hits. That said, there is a unique weapon called the Stormlander which is a hammer with this effect already on it.

If the player manages to get ahold of one of these, then they can use their enchantments on other effects such as Sharpness, Rampaging, or even Shockwaves. Armor doesn't play as much of a role in this build, but anything that will protect the player or boost melee damage is nice. For artifacts, players will want to rely on things to help them in melee combat or support allies, such as the Death Cap Mushroom, the Iron Hide Amulet, and the Shock Powder.

Ninja Assassin

Minecraft Dungeons Thief Armor

Any weapon with dual wielding capabilities like the sickle works great for this build. Essentially, the point is to rack up as much attack speed as is possible in Minecraft Dungeons, and then use it to shred through enemies like butter. With that in mind, the Death Cap Mushroom is a necessity, and having more than one wouldn't even be a bad thing. With three Death Cap Mushrooms at high enough level, players will be able to maintain their Mushroomized state almost indefinitely. For armor, players will want to pick something which boosts attack speed like the Thief armor (which is great because its appearance fits the build as well).

Enchantments play a vital role in this build as well, and the main star of the show is going to be the rampaging enchantment. This gives a 10% chance to drastically increase attack speed any time an enemy is killed, which should be happening a lot. Beyond this, Looting is another good choice for the weapon enchantment, as it will increase the probability of Shadow Brew potions dropping which allow the player to invisibly take out high threat enemies.

Minecraft Dungeons is available now for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
