Like most ARPGs, Minecraft Dungeons is meant to be played with friends. The game allows multiple players to team up on a mission to takedown the Arch-Illager, with a story spanning different missions and encounters. However, players have begun to wonder if Minecraft Dungeons supports crossplay, allowing users on different platforms to play together regardless of the ecosystem each player is on.
Crossplay has become a standard feature for many games, with titles like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare supporting crossplay. That stands in stark contrast of the beginning of this console generation, and, unfortunately, isn't a capability Minecraft Dungeons has — or at least not one that it has at launch.
Right now, Minecraft Dungeons doesn't support crossplay, but the feature will be added in a future free update, according to Mojang Studios. This means that players on Xbox One can't play with users on other consoles, and vice versa. Additionally, save progress will not transfer to different platforms, so those looking to start a game on PC and finish it on Xbox One are out of luck.
Still, it is good news that Minecraft Dungeons will get crossplay in the future. Not only is it an important feature for a multiplayer game in 2020, but it proves that Mojang Studios is dedicated to sticking with Minecraft Dungeons and that the game will continue to evolve. Right now, there's no window on when the update will actually release, but it does seem like something that will be a priority, given how important crossplay has become in the last few years.
Minecraft Dungeons has confirmed other DLC, too, with more missions and story content slated for sometime in the future. Mojang is likely giving players a chance to play through the game before announcing more, which is a wise move, as it has the potential to spoil aspects of the game.
There are a lot of secrets in Minecraft Dungeons, and while its a bit disappointing that players can't discover them with those on other platforms, at least they'll be able to play together at some point, it just isn't entirely clear when crossplay will be added to Minecraft Dungeons.
