The Content Design Lead for ArenaNet’s Guild Wars 2, Andrew Gray, talked about the past, present, and future of Guild Wars, in a recent interview on TheGG.net.

Speaking with The Gaming Ground, Andrew Gray waxed nostalgic on Guild War 2’s past and commented on the ways that they defied expectations in the MMO market when it launched in 2012.  Andrew goes on to discuss how they lowered the barrier of entry for new players when they introduced the Play for Free version of Guild Wars 2, and their commitment to providing players with new content without breaking the bank.

“As far as game media goes, I honestly think we continue to surprise them. We’ve been busy the last 8 years, not just adding new content, but improving the game as a whole, both with player-facing systemic and mechanical improvements, and also back end technical improvements.

This wasn’t done with a major re-release of the game, or a massive, single technical upgrade that coincided with an expansion release, it has been done gradually and continuously throughout the life of the game, so it’s easy to fly under the radar. The future is bright, and we hope to continue surprising both our players and the press.”

Specifically regarding content, Andrew mentioned that there is plenty left to the Icebrood Saga and that the response to their most recent release of ‘Visions of the Past: Steel and Fire’ has been amazing. Unfortunately, no new information was provided regarding the recently-announced third expansion to Guild Wars 2, but Andrew did mention that “right now, the team is focused 100% on the development of the third Guild Wars 2 expansion."
