Fans have reported that industry insiders have teased an announcement from Atlus revealing Persona 6, the next numerical game in the Persona franchise. Fans have been eagerly awaiting the next installment in the popular series, and it seems they may catch a glimpse of what the game entails at the New Game Plus Expo on June 23.

The Persona franchise has seen an explosion of popularity since the release of Persona 5 in 2017. Since then, the game has been nominated for several awards, such as Game of the Year and Best Art Direction, while IGN gave it the title of Best RPG of 2017. With such a celebrated game under their belt, Atlus has a lot to live up to with the next chapter in the Persona series.

According to a Reddit post, insiders in the gaming industry have teased that Persona 6 may be making an appearance at the New Game Plus Expo. Companies like Atlus, Sega, and Spike Chunsoft will come together to stream game news announcements on June 23, which would be a good time to announce the next installment in the Persona franchise. A Persona 5 spin off game may make its debut on the stream as well.

Right now, fans don’t know much about Persona 6. Atlus has made the statement that they are working on mid-to-long term plans for the franchise, including new numbered entries according to an interview company representatives gave in October. Fans speculate that the earliest the Japanese market would see Persona 6 is 2021, while western countries could see it by 2022. Atlus hasn’t confirmed a release date for the title at this point; however, they have confirmed that Persona 6 is intended to be even larger in scale than Persona 5 and will expand on the Persona universe.

While it would be incredible to see a sneak peek of Persona 6, it would be ready much faster than the seven years of development it took to create Persona 5. However, Atlus also filed for bankruptcy in the middle of Persona 5, so that may have lengthened the production time for that game. Without that budget issue, fans may be able to play — and see more of it — earlier in its timeline than its predecessor.

Persona 6’s release date hasn’t been announced.
