The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was a major critical and commercial success, standing as one of the most beloved RPGs of the past decade. One of the most popular features in The Witcher 3 was the game-within-a-game called Gwent, with some players spending all of their time playing it instead of completing the main quest. Gwent's popularity eventually convinced CD Projekt Red to move forward with a standalone release, which is now finally coming to Steam.

Gwent was previously exclusive to CD Projekt Red's GOG service on PC, but it's now available on Steam. What's more is that those that play Gwent on Steam can enjoy cross-play with those playing on the GOG version, as well as anyone playing Gwent on iOS and Android mobile devices. This should ensure that Gwent on Steam has a very healthy number of players right out of the gate.

Additionally, Gwent on Steam also features integration with Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales. For the uninitiated, Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales is essentially the single-player campaign for Gwent, though it was released standalone across various platforms. Thronebreaker's inclusion will allow Steam users to get the full Gwent experience.

It will be interesting to see if CD Projekt Red's upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 has any kind of mini-game that becomes as popular as Gwent did in The Witcher 3. Fans will find out once Cyberpunk 2077 launches later this year.

Gwent is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, as well as iOS and Android mobile devices.
