Voidpoint's first-person shooter Ion Fury made waves in 2019 with controversies including a lawsuit from the band Iron Maiden for its original title, Ion Maiden, and a floundering stance from the developers and publisher on censoring homophobic jokes found in-game. Even so, the game officially jumped from PC to current generation consoles yesterday, after the wider release was announced in April.

Publisher 3D Realms put Ion Fury out digitally on the Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Xbox One, and according to the game's website, it will have limited physical releases on the PC, PS4, and Switch available starting June 26, 2020. The game previously released two special edition boxes containing goods like posters, art books, and physical soundtracks, but the "Founders Edition" box is sold out, having only produced 500 copies.

Ion Fury is a prequel to Interceptor Entertainment's 2016 game Bombshell, and is nearly identical to classic 3D Realms FPS titles like Duke Nukem 3D. Ion Fury received fairly positive receptions for its gameplay upon release, in spite of the controversies surrounding its contents and developers.

3D Realms has also announced it will be releasing a remaster of controversial 90s shooter Kingpin, but that title currently has no specific release date.

Ion Fury is available now on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
