With everything going on in the gaming industry today, it's easy to forget about the small things. One thing Borderlands 3 players shouldn't let fly under their radar is the upcoming Guardian Takedown following the on-going Revenge of the Cartels event.

There's a lot left in the air about the upcoming Takedown, as Gearbox hasn't really teased the upcoming addition to Borderlands 3 yet. It is said to drop this month, though, and nearing the midway point, it seems like the proper time to give the Guardian Takedown a full breakdown.

Everything We Know About the Borderlands 3 Guardian Takedown

borderlands 3 roadmap spring

Thus far, everything known about the Borderlands 3 Takedown is derived from the Spring 2020 breakdown. Nothing really stands out when it comes to past Takedowns or events, promising gear and cosmetics while confirming the Eridian focus. "New Challenging Bosses" is the most promising detail, but not geniunely surprising; Maliwan's Blacksite, for example, has a boss midway through and at the end. In short, it sounds like a generic Takedown so far, although the biggest question is how this Takedown will differentiate itself from the Eridian Proving Grounds.

When Will the Borderlands 3 Guardian Takedown Be Revealed/Released?

Right now, the Borderlands 3 Guardian Takedown could drop any time between now and May 31, and it's not impossible for it to be shadowdropped or just revealed with a trailer. The ball is in Gearbox's court, but there is one hint: the Borderlands 3 show. It's about time for another one, and it would make sense for the Takedown to be discussed in-depth before release. Usually, these are announced at least a little bit ahead, so if this is indeed the case, a reveal may take place later this month with the Takedown following near the end.

Past release patterns do suggest it'll release before the end of Revenge of the Cartels on June 4, and at least some time ahead. Understandably, there's also the caveat of if coronavirus has delayed the Takedown, but when/if we'll get solid reveal and release dates remain to be seen.

Borderlands 3 Takedown: Enemies, Boss, Mayhem 10, and Weapons

Perhaps this biggest question is what the Takedown will look like, as while the Guardians are a fan-favorite enemy, there isn't a lot of variety. It would be interesting to see if this Takedown introduced some new Eridian and Guardian Enemies, aside from the bosses which may be amped up versions of Guardians. If not, it seems likely that a combination of Nekrotafeyo-based enemies and Guardians will appear.

Interestingly enough, this is the first Takedown introduced since Mayhem 2.0 and is likely more geared toward accommodating the difficulty. Fans should expect and prepare for a difficult fight on the higher difficulties, so prepping the best possible builds and weapons ahead of time may be in the best interest of many-a-Borderlands 3 player.

Of course, the goal will be to unlock even better weapons and unique cosmetics, which also presents an interesting idea: could this Eridian-focused content update add the Effervescent weapons to the game? Many were disappointed when it wasn't in the game at launch, but at the same time, it fit past release patterns.

This would be about as good of a time as it gets, yet it's also outside the window of expectation. While it would do a lot for the popularity of the Takedown if it added even a couple of weapons of this rarity, even if solely on high Mayhem difficulties, fans shouldn't go into the Borderlands 3 content update having high hopes for this.

Borderlands 3 Summer 2020 Roadmap

Of course, while it shouldn't be overshadow, it would be remiss to mention that it's the end of the road. The Guardian Takedown brings the Spring 2020 roadmap to an end, meaning the Summer 2020 roadmap reveal shouldn't be much longer after that. It may begin with Borderlands 3 DLC 3, which promises gunslingers and dinosaurs, so it would be good for players to go into this Takedown with the mindset of kitting out for the next DLC. It all remains to be seen, but there's a good chance that another level cap increase is on the way with it, so players should be prepared.

Borderlands 3 is out now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
