The official gameplay trailer for Apex Legends Season 5 has arrived, and with it comes the much-desired details on the new PvE Quest system, changes to King’s Canyon, and more.

The trailer for Fortune’s Favor with our new Legend, Loba, narrating why she’s come to King’s Canyon. She is looking for something called the “Broken Ghost,” which according to her is a “rare and valuable” treasure, all while a moody cover of Duran Duran’s “Hungry Like the Wolf” plays in the background.

Players soon see the consequences of her actions from Apex Legends’ Season 5 launch trailer, where she blew up the Skull Town portion of King’s Canyon trying to kill Revenant’s operating-hub. It turns out she also managed to send Thunderdome (the entire bottom-left corner of the map) into the ocean as well. It isn’t entirely clear how the Broken Ghost treasure and her vendetta against Revenant tie into one another, if they do at all. But it will certainly be explained over the course of this season, says developer Respawn.

The way the new quest system will work is that every player can collect one Treasure Pack per day. That Treasure Pack will show up in the lobby once the player finishes the match, like Forge’s medallion from his Death Box did last season. The packs can contain things such as Crafting Metals, Apex Packs, or BattlePass XP. There are 45 packs total and every 5 packs will unlock a Weekly Hunt.

The Weekly Hunt is a special PvE event where a player or a player and their squad drop on King’s Canyon at night to fight some prowlers— the namesake of everyone’s favorite SMG and the enemy that players fight during Bloodhound’s Trial— to recover one of nine pieces of the Broken Ghost. The first hunt will be released on May 19 and unlocks after the fifth Treasure Pack. Thankfully, the Hunts do not need to be completed the week they release, so players are given some leeway there. But players will have to play and find a Treasure Pack on at least 45 different days before the end of the season to unlock the 9 Hunts and complete the quest.

The other nifty part of collecting each of the nine pieces to the Broken Ghost is that it will unlock a new chapter of Season 5’s story for players to watch. The blog post on publisher EA’s website goes on to say that it’s because of fan response to the story and characters thus far in Apex Legends' life that Season 5 will be the most story-heavy season yet.

In the leadup to Season 5’s launch on May 12, players can play the final leg of the Battle Armor Event this weekend, where every player will drop with a level one Evo Shield and a P2020 pistol. If players deal enough damage, they can level up the Evo Shield to the incredibly strong red level, which has higher HP than even the Legendary Body Shield.

Apex Legends is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
