Balmung is the first NA Final Fantasy XIV server to fully rebuild the New Nest

It took a while, but it’s done now. The first North American server to complete the restoration of Ishgard in Final Fantasy XIV patch 5.21 is Balmung on the Crystal datacenter as of 11:04 p.m. EDT on May 4th, beating out its next-closest rival Gilgamesh on the Aether datacenter. This comes after the first Japanese server and numerous other servers in FFXIV’s nation of origin had completed the crafting task, with the EU datacenters still nearing the finish line (the current lead belongs to Cerberus on the Chaos datacenter).

For those unfamiliar with the game’s servers, Balmung is the original unofficial roleplaying server in FFXIV, with Mateus (on the same datacenter) seen as the secondary such site. Gilgamesh, meanwhile, is the center of the game’s progression raiding community and easily the other biggest server in the game.

It’s worth noting that the prize for completing this task is the completion itself; it changes the music in the Firmament and adds a few additional sidequests, but all of the turn-in content remains in place and unchanged. So if you’ve been working toward the scrips needed for a mount, this won’t stop you; it just means that you’ll be contributing to a finished project instead of watching the project bar tick upward. That’s all right.
