In the hours following the reveal trailer of Assassin's Creed Valhalla, tons of information has hit the internet through many gaming outlets giving us a better idea of what the game looks like, including screenshots, information on the game's setting and, importantly, information on the game's protagonist, Eivor.
Assassin's Creed Valhalla, as the title suggests, will be set in 9th century Europe and feature fully explorable recreations of Norway, Scandinavia and England as players take control of Eivor, the leader of a viking settlement as they lead the vikings out of Norway and into the kingdoms of England. The trailer sets Eivor up as a fearless leader as he leads his crew into battle.
What the trailer doesn't tell you is that, much like in Assassin's Creed Odyssey, players will be able to choose if they want to play as the male or female versions of Eivor. This was a topic of much speculation after yesterday's artwork reveal stream with BossLogic showcased the male depiction of the character, as well as today's reveal trailer. While the marketing material so far has only depicted the male incarnation of the character, lead producer Julien Laferriere stated to Eurogamer that the marketing will "showcase both at different points."
Following the success of Assassin's Creed Odyssey's Kassandra, it's incredibly refreshing to hear that the option to play as either a male or female character is now being treated as a series staple in the wake of Assassin's Creed's rebirth as an RPG series. It will be interesting to see which version of Eivor is ultimately the more popular choice for players when Assassin's Creed Valhalla launches later this year.
It is not yet known who will portray either incarnation of Eivor, but we are sure to find out next week when Assassin's Creed Valhalla gameplay debuts during Microsoft's Inside Xbox Xbox Series X event.
Assassin's Creed Valhalla will launch on Google Stadia, PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X in holiday 2020.
