Following months of rumors, leaks, and speculation, Ubisoft has finally pulled the curtain back on the Viking-themed Assassin's Creed game, Assassin's Creed Valhalla. Along with the Assassin's Creed Valhalla cinematic trailer, Ubisoft has also revealed a slew of additional details about what the upcoming game will entail, including information about its protagonist, a viking named Eivor.
Assassin's Creed Valhalla will revolve entirely around Eivor and his journey in England. As Eivor, players will complete missions and tasks with the goal of establishing a viking settlement. Eivor will be a "lone wolf," according to the developers, but will still work hard to maintain their community. Eivor's individual ambition and how that impacts their desire to help their settlement will reportedly be a key aspect of Assassin's Creed Valhalla's story.
As was the case with Assassin's Creed Odyssey, Eivor can be male or female. However, the screenshots Ubisoft has released of Assassin's Creed Valhalla so far focus entirely on the male version of Eivor, so fans will have to wait until a later date to see what the female version of the character looks like.
The Assassin's Creed Valhalla cinematic trailer shows Eivor in action, and it also features a glimpse of Odin, the all-powerful god of Norse mythology. Eivor's spirituality will play a key role in Assassin's Creed Valhalla, though the game will reportedly go for a more "grounded" approach as opposed to leaning all the way into the supernatural elements. It will be interesting to see how the developers achieve a satisfying balance between Norse mythology and a more realistic take on Viking culture, and fans will find out more this holiday season.
In the meantime, Ubisoft has also confirmed that Assassin's Creed Valhalla is bringing back the present-day story. Present-day protagonist Layla will once again be featured in the present-day sections, though details on how exactly those will play out have yet to be revealed.
While Ubisoft has announced a ton of new information about Assassin's Creed Valhalla, there's still a lot about the game that is being kept under-wraps. Assassin's Creed Valhalla is aiming for a holiday release on multiple platforms, and so more reveals should come to light over the course of the next few months.
Assassin's Creed Valhalla launches holiday 2020 for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
