Fans who have been eagerly awaiting the addition of RTX ray-tracing technology to Minecraft won't have to wait much longer. The Minecraft RTX beta will be starting in just a couple days.

Mojang previously showed off what Minecraft could look like with ray-tracing, enabling far more realistic lighting in the game. Fans were wowed by the hard and soft shadows, rays of light, and more realistic reflections, but they've been waiting over half a year for the beta to actually begin after it was initially announced.

Now the wait can come to an end, as the RTX beta will officially launch for all PC users on April 16th. Of course, players will need to possess an RTX-capable card in order to utilize the beta, like an Nvidia 2060, 2070, or 2080 graphics card. Players will also need to be using Windows 10, and at launch, ray-tracing will only be available in select worlds.

Interest in ray-tracing technology is on the rise, and with the next gen Xbox Series X capable of utilizing it, it will only continue to grow in popularity. Games like Cyberpunk 2077 will utilize ray-tracing on the GeForce Now game streaming service, while others like Resident Evil 3 have already seen mods that make its creepy world even more so with the added atmosphere of ray-tracing.

Minecraft is out now for PC, PS4, Switch, Xbox One and mobile, along with many older platforms.
