Video games provide players with a much-needed break from the daily struggles of life, but sometimes a game will go above and beyond that in the pursuit of doing good. World of Warships has done just that, as it raised over $100,000 in partnership with charity organization Stack Up to help veterans in need of mental health assistance.

World of Warships's player base consists of a large portion of veterans, so the fundraising effort, dubbed Operation Lifeboat, makes a ton of sense. The developer of World of Warships, Wargaming, had aimed to raise $100,000 dollars over the course of nine weeks to support these veterans.

Of course, Wargaming was blown away when it reached, and even exceeded, the goal in just five weeks, raising a total of $114,760. Players were able to purchase special bundles that provided unique items, missions, and more, of which 5385 were purchased, and all funds were donated directly to StackUp's Overwatch Program.

This Overwatch Program (StOP) provides veterans with access to certified crisis intervention volunteers via Discord, and Wargaming has even put a link in the game to access the resource. This is just one example of developers using their games to spread helpful information, like when developers in the UK put public health messages in their games.

World of Warships is available now for Mobile, PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
