With the Resident Evil 3 remake launching a few days ago, many have already begun asking the question of what's next for the Resident Evil franchise. While the remake of the third game was more divisive than its 2019 predecessor, Resident Evil 2, players still found a lot of fun in tangling with Nemesis in glorious HD, especially as the monster's new range of abilities made him more challenging than ever.

Naturally, one of the directions fans have already considered is another remake, with the likes of Resident Evil: Code Veronica or perhaps even Resident Evil 4 potentially returning to screens utilizing the incredible visuals and new engine on show in the newer entries in the franchise. Luckily, it seems Capcom isn't against the idea either, with the company recently releasing a survey gauging whether consumers would want more Resident Evil remakes going forward.

On Capcom's Asian website, the major video game publisher asked visiting fans "If a new remake title of 'Resident Evilis released, would you like to purchase it?" The options given to reply to the question are also fairly intriguing, with Capcom seemingly wondering whether players would buy a new console purely for a Resident Evil remake. The options range from, "I will purchase the game even if I had to buy a new console," all the way down to "I do not want to play anymore," clearly showing that Capcom wants to know players' exact reactions to the idea.

Many fans would likely agree that a new remake is a smart next step for the franchise, especially as Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil have conjured a lot more interest in the series over recent years. Resident Evil: Code Veronica and Resident Evil 4 are two of the most revered entries in the series' history as well, and would no doubt garner a lot of interest from franchise veterans if they were to be brought back with enhanced visuals, slicker combat, and some frightening new monsters in tow.

However, it is worth remembering that Capcom has ideas in place for a supposed Resident Evil 8 dropping next year, which many will no doubt also be excited about seeing as fans haven't had a brand new mainline entry in the series since 2017. Yet, with Resident Evil quickly finding prominence again with modern audiences, it would be good for Capcom to have multiple projects on the go at once, and having more brilliant remakes in the wings would no doubt be a solid move to keep fans invested.

Resident Evil 3 is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
