Today, Volition revealed that the Saints Row 3 Remastered will release on May 22 for current-gen hardware. This remaster retools everything from the ground-up, making it look more beautiful than ever. It is being worked on by Spearsoft, which frees up Volition to work another project, presumably the next Saints Row game.

However, there are a few caveats to this remaster, with the biggest being that it will run at the last-gen frame rate of 30 FPS. Only the PC version will be able to go higher than that. While this may disappoint console players, it does make some sense given that Saints Row 3 is a last-gen title.

Volition also confirmed that there's no plans for this remaster to come to the PS5 and Xbox Series X, which while perhaps disappointing, also makes sense. With Spearsoft taking the lead here, there's a good chance that Volition is working on something else, whatever that may truly be, and that title could easily release on the next-gen consoles.

After all, it is confirmed that a new Saints Row game is in "deep development" at Volition itself, so fans will just need to wait and see what that project turns out to be.

Saints Row 3 Remastered releases May 22 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
