While it may not be as well received as last year's Resident Evil 2 Remake, it seems that Capcom has another hit on its hands with Resident Evil 3 Remake. Still, fans can't help but wonder what direction the developer is going to go in, whether it intends to keep pumping out remakes to fan favorite games or try something new entirely. Recent rumors indicate that Capcom is likely working on a brand new experience with Resident Evil 8 and is looking to take the franchise in an entirely new direction.

The latest Resident Evil 8 information comes from the noted insider Dusk Golem aka AestheticGamer, who has already provided a lot of details on the upcoming game. Already, this person has indicated that the 2021 release will bring back first person perspective and even originally began its life as Resident Evil Revelations 3 instead of the next mainline entry. However, Dusk Golem revealed even more new details which should surely raise a few eyebrows of longtime fans.

According to their latest Tweet, Resident Evil 8 will be bringing back Ethan Winters from the last mainline game in the franchise. Whether or not this is the case, many fans continue to hope that the next game will have a few answers to the mysterious Blue Umbrella Corporation.

In addition to the return of Winters, Resident Evil 8 is likely to lean into more mythical creatures like werewolves. Gameplay-wise, Dusk Golem hints that the game will also have hallucinations and insanity elements, perhaps hearkening back to the cult classic Gamecube game, Eternal Darkness. There's been no details from Capcom at this time, so for now, fans should make sure to temper their expectations.

If true, the major departures from what fans have come to expect from the series have left more than a few players concerned. Still, it's been reported that internal tests for the then Resident Evil Revelations 3 were so positive that Capcom decided to switch gears and convert it into a mainline entry. With all the talk of cultist and mythical creatures, other rumors have indicated that traditional zombies will be included as well, though the leaked information details a wild sequence involving a castle siege with witches. Either way, fans should be getting a very interesting and potentially fun next game in the long running series.

Resident Evil 8 is not yet officially announced.
