The 7 Best MMORPGs of All Time

MMORPG

You might be surprised to know that MMORPGs have been around for some time now. Once, this was the newest way to play and have fun online but they’ve actually become quite an old genre. What is an MMORPG? It’s a massively multiplayer online roleplay game. Basically, you play a character in a persistent online world with loads of different players around the world. Usually, you level up your character to improve skills and get new items, but these don’t always follow the same format.

Well if you want to know what the 7 best MMORPGs of all time are, then you’re in the right place. We’re going to look at a few options, and some of them might not be what you’re expecting. Remember, MMORPGs are just one of many ways to play and have fun online. Some players of MMORPGs also enjoy other ways to play online, including ways to actually win money back like with online betting. That’s why MMORPG fans also like sites like 888sport as it’s another great way to play on eSports and Virtuals.

But what are the 7 best MMORPGs of all time?

Anarchy Online

Fans of classic MMORPGs must remember Anarchy Online. It’s been around well over a decade, but people still play it today. As you’ll see in this article, some of the best MMORPGs are really old, but they’re also really popular. And Funcom’s AO fits the bill. You can even play it for free now. If you like things futuristic, you might love AO.

World of Warcraft

World of Warcraft is probably the most famous MMORPG of them all. Again, it’s still popular today in both original and “Classic” modes. You can still get a free trial although it isn’t completely free. That there are so many people still willing to pay a monthly subscription for an old game where many others have gone free to play tells you something, WoW is wildly popular for a reason.

MMORPG 1

Star Wars Galaxies

SWG got a lot of criticism when it came out, but it really became a classic over time. Sadly, it’s no longer supported although there are communities still playing the game, but it’s hard to get into if you’re a newbie. SWG had great tradeskill options and the ability to mine and more.

Runescape

Runescape has seen a bit of a renaissance in popularity. You can either play the new game or Runescape Old School, and both are free. There are still thousands of players enjoying Runescape.

Guild Wars

Guild Wars was more of a co-operative PvM instead of PvP game and although it didn’t offer a massive persistent world (but zones instead) it was still really popular. THere’s Guild Wars 2 now if you want something similar.

MMORPG 2

Minecraft.

Yes, we know Minecraft isn’t a proper MMORPG. However, with certain game modes and online plugins like McMMO, it can be used as one. And if you do, it’s one of the best MMORPG options around. You just have to find the right server that supports the right play.

Star Wars The Old Republic

Another Star Wars game in the top 7. This one wasn’t as popular as SWG and has a lot of issues, but if you like Star Wars it’s a newer one. It was hard to pick the top 7 really as there are so many different options, a lot of it comes down to personal taste. If this one isn’t for you, something else might be.

What’s your favorite MMO of all time? Perhaps it’s something that isn’t on this list.
