For those missing Sony Online Entertainment’s long-departed Free Realms, the only hope they’ve had has rested in the hands of a volunteer dev team working to restore the kid-friendly MMO under the name of Free Realms Sunrise. This rogue server has been long in the coming, considering that we started to cover it back in 2017, but progress is indeed being made.
In fact, it sounds as though the project has left the alpha state and is progressing toward beta. The team recently teased one important addition that testers will see when this arrives: “Housing and lots are going to be in beta. We can’t wait for you to escape that one block game and return to a more authentic building experience!”
Considering that this announcement had 727 likes on Twitter, it’s safe to say that there’s a strong contingent of Free Realms fans excited to see the return of their beloved title. Currently, there is no date for the upcoming open beta test.
