As it had been speculated over the past few days, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered arrived earlier today on the PlayStation Store. The campaign only download is a PS4 exclusive for the time being and comes with a few perks for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare players who decide to purchase it. While more than a few fans will be more than happy to re-experience the Modern Warfare 2 campaign, they may also be disappointed to learn the fate of the rest of the game.
Alongside the release announcement for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered, the Activision Blog dropped a few more details on the status of the rest of the game. The $20 download is only for the campaign and as of right now, there's no plans to provide a similar remastering to the original game's Spec Ops or Multiplayer modes.

The reason for this is to not split the player base between a number of different but similar games. The current Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is being set up as the hub for these other Call of Duty experiences. This can be seen through the recent release of Warzone, a free to play Battle Royale mode that can either be downloaded or accessed through the core game itself. Those who opt to download Warzone actually end up downloading the entire Call of Duty: Modern Warfare game anyway.
Thankfully, Activision does plan on introducing even more Modern Warfare 2 maps into the core multiplayer experience to go along with already released ones like Rust. The game already features cross-play functionality and newly released maps are free to download, so releasing a specific Modern Warfare 2 Remastered multiplayer pack doesn't make sense. Instead, the company is focusing on continuing to grow and evolve the experience over time.
As previously mentioned, Modern Warfare players are getting a bonus for purchasing Modern Warfare 2 Remastered. Picking it up on PS4 or preordering through the PC or Xbox One gaion immediate access to the Underwater Demo Team Classic Ghost Bundle. In addition to featuring Ghost's look from Modern Warfare 2, players get two weapon blueprints, a weapon charm, the Belly Flop finishing move, a classic Ghost emblem, a player card, and Ghost's 'Stay Frosty' voice quip. As expected, this content can also be used inside of Warzone as well.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered is out now for PS4, with a PC and Xbox One version launching on April 30.
