Borderlands 3's latest DLC is out now, and as many will discover as they dive into the Eldritch horrors of Guns, Loves, and Tentacles: The Marriage of Wainwright and Hammerlock that the DLC is chock full of new lore, content, and lovecraftian themes. However, it still retains in tongue-in-cheek approach to everything Borderlands in this DLC, meaning the humor, content, and the teases are there. Borderlands 3 has teased everything from raid bosses to the upcoming DLC 3 before, so it's not a surprise that this latest DLC has some teases of its own.

It's worth mentioning that this article will contain MINOR SPOILERS for the characters and locations of the story, but thankfully, this is something that's easy enough to speak about without diving into the newest Borderlands 3 DLC's story. As such, here's how the latest DLC teases the potential return of Salvador the Gunzerker.

Borderlands 3 DLC Characters

what happened in borderlands 2?

For context, it's clear that Borderlands 3 DLC may be following a pattern when it comes to bringing back former Vault Hunters in DLC. The initial DLC, Mad Moxxi's Heist of the Handsome Jackpot, brought Jack's Clone Timothy from the Pre-Sequel back in the mix, while the Guns, Love, and Tentacles trailer showcased the return of Gaige and Deathtrap. Presumably, the next couple of DLCs will follow this pattern.

It's easy enough to narrow down the pool of characters who could return, as there are many who have died across the franchise's various entries. Simply put, Salvador, Axton, Krieg, Fiona from Tales of the Borderlands, and Athena are still really the only viable characters to return (with Fiona potentially being less so). Borderlands 3's Krieg is almost a shoe-in but still can't be promised. And with only 2 remaining DLCs, a pattern befitting (so far) just one character, and there being 5 possibilities, it's possible a couple of characters get cut. However, Gearbox may be teasing Salvador's return in the latest DLC.

Borderlands 3 DLC: Salvador the Gunzerker

The "Hub" of the DLC is a place called the Lodge led by a man known as Mancubus Bloodtooth. Players will interact with him throughout the main story, but he's also a source of a few sidequests. Players should take note that, to the right of the bar, there are three wanted signs. One of these is for Salvador, who is wanted for racking up an incredibly long bar tab in true Vault Hunter fashion. Where it gets interesting is that there is a series of sidequests to collect on these debts, with players tasked to go out and find these characters.

Borderlands 3 players have to kill the two other characters who, after the side quest is completed, will get a debt paid stamp over the character. The only one who does not have a mission, despite it seemingly so, is Salvador, which begs the question of why include the character here to begin with. Breaking the rule of three (a generalization that doing tasks in threes is a fitting design, something upheld in another sidequest with Eista) is further support that this was intentional. It becomes clear that Salvador has at least traveled to Xylourgos and visited the Lodge, but it's also a potential tease that he's set to return in a forthcoming DLC.

If so, there's little doubt that his return would be welcomed by Borderlands 3 fans, and since the next BL3 DLC is about cowboys and dinosaurs, it's a perfect setting for the Gunzerker. This could just be an acknowledgement of his character, so only time will tell, but it seems like a safe bet that this is meant to mean something more for the violent Vault Hunter.

Borderlands 3 is out now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
