The kart racing title Crash Team Racing: Nitro Fueled just finished its final Grand Prix event, but will continue to see new content. A host of things went live in Crash Team Racing today, but arguably the most interesting addition is an unlockable character: an iron checkpoint crate.
For those who are uninitiated in the world of Crash Bandicoot, this metal box is literally the object Crash activates to serve as a checkpoint in his original platforming titles remastered via the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy. There has never been an indication that these crates are sentient, nor capable of operating a vehicle, yet players can now use it as a racer if they find and break the "Beenox crates" hidden in every track.
There's plenty more new content in Crash Team Racing for players to get excited about including a skin pack based on the developer Beenox, new time trials, and three more characters now available via the Pit Stop, its in-game shop. Unique items that were only accessible during Grand Prix seasons are also circulating the Pit Stop.
However, no doubt those who have stuck with Crash Team Racing: Nitro Fueled since launch will want to go after that playable crate for the bizarre novelty alone. It should make for a fun distraction while fans wait on the possible announcement of a Wrath of Cortex remaster.
Crash Team Racing: Nitro Fueled is available on PS4, Xbox One, and Switch.
