Manticore wants to lower barrier to making and launching multiplayer games with new Core platform

Middleware maker Manticore has said that its new Core platform will help developers release multiplayer games into the marketplace.

Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz, co-founder and CEO Frédéric Descamps said the service makes it easier to build multiplayer games, in addition to finding an audience. It's built on Unreal Engine 4 and uses Lua for scripting.

The company has raised more than $45m in funding since it was established back in 2017. In December of that year, Manticore brought in $15m via its Series A funding round, led by Benchmark. Meanwhile, the firm raised $40m with its 2019 Series B.

"Development pipelines are typically very complex, very codified, very regimented," Descamps said.

"We've worked on games where there were no fewer than 12 tools involved, and then you have to integrate that into an engine... Even when it's your own games and your own company, you're not allowed to make changes. It can take weeks."

COO Jordan Maynard added: "Our goal is to make it so you wouldn't want to [sell a game on Steam]. The path of least resistance to getting your game made, getting it published, and getting it seen by millions of players, should be through Core."
