Exit the Gungeon, a spin-off and pseudo-sequel to Dodge Roll's 2016 release Enter the Gungeon, is now available for purchase on the Nintendo Switch's eShop. During Nintendo's Indie World Showcase, a presentation of independent games available on Nintendo systems, Exit the Gungeon was announced to be releasing the very same day as the Showcase aired.

In addition, Exit the Gungeon, a collaboration between Dodge Roll and Singlecore, is now available on PC as well, purchasable via Steam. Previously, the game launched in September of 2019 as an exclusive to Apple Arcade, a subscription service for iOS.

Exit's predecessor, Enter the Gungeon, is a rogue-lite bullet hell game, tasking players with utilizing a vast menagerie of gun-themed items and weapons in order to defeat a variety of enemies and bosses which are also themed around firearms. Players will also need to acquire currency, health, and keys, which once again, are all related to guns in some way.

In this way, Exit the Gungeon remains faithful to the original, using a similar gameplay loop and extraordinarily difficult combat. The main difference in Exit, however, is that, rather than being a top-down shooter, the game adds platforming mechanics, adding a new dimension to gameplay.

Enter the Gungeon had players descending into the Gungeon in order to find a gun with the ability to "kill" the past. Exit the Gungeon picks up immediately after the heroes' pasts are vanquished, now focusing on fleeing the crumbling ruins of the titular fortress of firearms. While the original was similar to The Binding of Isaac or Nuclear Throne, expect Exit the Gungeon to play more like Downwell, except in the opposite direction.

A core feature of both Enter the Gungeon and Exit the Gungeon is the dodge roll, an ability so integral to the games that the developer named itself after it. While rolling, a player gains invincibility, allowing its users to cross pits and move through enemy fire. Due to this versatility, mastery of the dodge roll is perhaps the most important skill a player can learn.

While releases for the Playstation 4 and Xbox One are likely, considering Enter released on both, Exit the Gungeon is currently exclusive the Switch, iOS, and PC. For anyone looking for a brutally difficult yet rewarding game, or for those who wanted more of the Gungeon after the first time around, Exit is only $9.99 on PC and Switch.

Exit the Gungeon is currently available for iOS, PC, and Switch.
