Destiny 2 fans are eagerly jumping back into the game for the new gameplay, and event-exclusive loot added to the game with the return of the Trials of Osiris mode. As players prepare to fight both new enemies and each other, they might find some inconsistencies with the items that they end up recovering.

Twitter user Gitv_Kyle recently discovered that although the in-game vendors were supposedly decrypting engram items that matched players' maximum power level, he was receiving slightly underpowered gear. He reported the issue to a Destiny 2 Twitter account (@VendorEngrams) that completes routine evaluations of the vendors

Eventually, the Twitter user discovered that the reason his engram items didn't match his abilities was because of his gear. In a video, he showed how when his character equipped slightly underpowered gear, it reduced his engram's power levels. When the player asked if the engrams' released items had always been based on the power level of one's armor and weapons, others confirmed that this wasn't the case. Previously, the vendors were aware of the strongest gear even if it wasn't on the character or in a player's Vault. While this bug does not make Destiny 2 unplayable, having to unequip an optimized arsenal and equip all the highest level gear just for engrams is certainly inconvenient.

Some reported having no issue with the engrams, while others found that only their armor seemed to impact the vendors' wares. However, all players who experimented to try and replicate the issue confirmed that there seemed to be a definite change. The fact that these results varied so wildly seems to indicate that the change in how engram power levels are calculated is definitely not intentional. As VendorEngrams said in their tweet, the error could be a result of the recent update (which has been met with much player disappointment) breaking some calculation algorithm.

Until Bungie's next update resolves this minor issue, players will have to work around the bugs. However, despite technical difficulties, Destiny 2 fans have more to look forward to than ever, from the many new quests to the bounty that awaits them in the Trials of Osiris Lighthouse.

Destiny 2 is available now for PC, Ps4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
