For a time following its inclusion into Destiny 2 with the Forsaken expansion, Gambit gave players a new way to experience the game by mixing PvE and PvP together into one mode. Since then, the mode has become pretty divisive among players for various reasons including some who believe Gambit could use a refresh of sorts. While there are those who continue to enjoy the experience, Gambit is not plagued by a nasty bug that is making the mode unplayable for everyone.

Reports began appearing online earlier this week following the Season of the Worthy update for Destiny 2. Players would frequently get kicked from a match and sent back to orbit or suddenly win the match when the enemy team suddenly disconnected. Many players assumed it was due to things like a spotty internet connections or even server troubles related to the recent update. However, the root cause appears to have been found and the results are fairly alarming.

The community has seemingly discovered that simply leveling up during a Gambit match causes the enemy team to be kicked from the match. On occasion, leveling up won't remove the entire enemy team, only some players, giving the player's team a big advantage.  Leveling up is much easier to do at the start of each week thanks to a "Well Rested" buff which grants faster XP progression for the first three levels. When combined with the easy to complete bounties from the Drifter, Gambit has become unplayable for most, if not all, Destiny 2 players.

Of course, something like this is a big problem on its own as it seemingly makes a big portion of Destiny 2 basically unplayable and adds on to the already growing discontent among players. However, things take an alarming turn when considering how easy it is to force a disconnect, giving griefers a very easy opportunity to score easy wins or hurt other players just for the sake of it. Bungie is aware of the issue as community manager dmg04 confirmed that the team is investigating, though there's no current timeline in place for a fix.

Considering how many bugs slipped into the game during last season, this isn't a great look for Bungie. This compounded by the fact that the bug is triggered by bounties, a very sore spot with the community right now as many players feel that bounty farming is a major issue in the current iteration of Destiny. Gambit is one of the more efficient ways to complete bounties as many daily challenges can be completed in a single match. With most players racing to gear and power up for Trials of Osiris tomorrow, the mode is likely going to be a bit more chaotic than normal until a fix can be applied.

Destiny 2 is out now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
