Bungie's multiplayer first-person shooter Destiny 2 has a lot of weapons, but an exotic rocket launcher known as the Wardcliff Coil has become infamous — enough so to be mentioned by Seth MacFarlane's cartoon sitcom American Dad. A fan of the sci-fi game has used that weapon as a basis to design a custom-built PC they built with "surplus parts" last summer.

Reddit user Thresh_Keller uploaded photos of his PC build to the r/DestinyTheGame subreddit, saying most of the mounts and brackets had to be made by hand in order to facilitate the various parts they collected working together. The Destiny 2-inspired device has a scratched-up prototype look with plenty of exposed wiring, a faded yellow frame, bright blue lights, and a matching keyboard and mouse with RGB illumination.

In the comments of the post, Thresh_Keller says this project was the second device they made over the summer after a previous PC build left a lot of parts over, and they were "so surprised when it turned on" considering how little planning they put in. They say they "slapped together" the idea after being inspired by one of Destiny 2's many exotic weapons and its lore, drawing comparisons to custom motorcycle shops in the way they used the Wardcliff Coil's aesthetic.

In Destiny 2, the Wardcliff Coil is "an experimental axion emitter," with every perk and in-game description emphasizing the risk vs. reward nature of using a rocket launcher that fires a volley of projectiles with a high possibility of killing its "desperate" user. In 2017 it was used by Destiny player Datto and his friends to solo the Leviathan raid.

The Season of the Worthy update released today in Destiny 2, players are swarming Bungie's free-to-play title to figure out everything that's new in the Destiny universe. Patch notes released for Season of the Worthy have outlined a number of new and returning features, as well as rebalancing to different abilities and weapons.

In the midst of that chaotic scramble to find everything "new" it's nice to return to something classic like the Wardcliff Coil, introduced in Season 1 of the game, taken to an impressive new place. Thresh_Keller says their Destiny-inspired computer is "safe, I think," and hopefully it will continue to serve them well as games like Horizon: Zero Dawn prepare to jump to PC.

Destiny 2 is currently available for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
