Less than a week away from Season of the Worthy beginning in Destiny 2, Bungie has released more details about what to expect from the story content and seasonal activities coming in Season 10. While most fans expected a certain highly-anticipated multiplayer mode to return to the game, many assumed Season 10 would be strictly PvP focused or at the very least didn't expect as much of a focus on PvE content.

While it's been a while since there's been a PvP-focused expansion released for Destiny 2, Season of the Worthy will still explore activities outside of Trials of Osiris. For those not interested in Trials of Osiris or PvP in general, this likely comes as a surprise considering all the rumors and leaks in the past month haven't hinted at any PvE content. While Bungie's roadmap for Season 10 illustrated some of what's to come, here's what to expect from Season 10's story and PvE content.

Rasputin's Defense Network

Focused on the events after the Sundial was reclaimed from the Cabal, Season of the Worthy reintroduces an enigmatic ally in the face of the Cabal's "desperate ploy for revenge." Rasputin, aka the Warmind, returns for Destiny 2's next season as the final line of defense for The Last City. According to a tease cutscene showing an uneasy alliance between Osiris and Rasputin, the Warmind AI returns to significance despite his dormancy since the Warmind expansion. While Rasputin's exact role in the defense of Earth remains to be seen (and is being foreshadowed as potentially dangerous), the recent info drop on Season of the Worthy's content does hint at his possible contingency plan.

Rasputin's several different defense installations will be playing a big part in Season of the Worthy's story/PvE content. While this will likely function similarly to the Sundial activities from last season, Guardians will need to explore the solar system to re-enable several "Seraph Towers," monolithic Warmind defense systems scattered throughout the planets. These gigantic towers are shown briefly in the trailer specifically in the EDZ. What's interesting is that these activities are described as public events, similar to the Escalation Protocol public events from the Warmind expansion, rather than raid-lite activities like Vex Offensive or the Sundial.

Players will also have to dive into what are called "Seraph Bunkers," also known as Legendary Lost Sectors. Similar to the Destiny 2 Lost Sectors already in the game, Seraph Bunkers will likely function similarly as underground facilities that are connected to the Warmind. Guardians will most likely be tasked with liberating these bunkers so that they can reconnect and arm the Warmind facilities with Rasputin, extending his defense network across planets.

Along with these terminals that Guardians need to activate, players are also tasked with "arm"-ing the Warmind, which is likely what the final portion of the season will be about. Fans learned from the Warmind expansion for Destiny 2 that Rasputin was originally very fragmented, with several of his outposts disconnected and strewn across the solar system. Not much is known about what Rasputin has been up to since the Warmind expansion, but it's likely the AI has been preparing for a situation like this since Season 3.

Outside of these Seraph towers, Guardians will likely have to travel to the worlds to reconnect Rasputin's AI network together to re-activate the Warmind network of defense installations. All of this will likely be in service to Season of the Worthy's story climax, the Cabal's last effort to get revenge on humanity.

A Last-Ditch Effort

From the latest gameplay trailer for Destiny 2's Season 10, it appears the Cabal are going for yet another climactic attempt at destroying humanity and The Last City. Judging from the trailer, this attempt might be their last. The basic premise of Season of the Worthy appears to be that the Cabal are attempting to send their flagship spacecraft "The Almighty" hurtling towards Earth, a desperate all-or-nothing attempt at ending humanity. Since the Guardians and the Vanguard never had a contingency planned for such an unprecedented event, players will likely turn towards Rasputin for help. Here's why that's a problem.

Alluded to during that Season 9 cinematic connecting Rasputin with Osiris, Rasputin is not to be trusted. Since the primary directive of this mysterious artificial intelligence is to independently protect humanity at all costs, Osiris confronting Rasputin was at first a bit confusing. Osiris mentions that in the Infinite Forest, a Vex simulation that can predict the future, he witnessed several futures that all had the same outcome. Humanity loses to the Darkness, and the Traveler is nowhere to be found. "A line has been drawn in this system," Osiris exclaimed at Rasputin. "Light on one side. Dark on the other. Where do you stand?"

Many believe that Rasputin will be siding with the Darkness, likely foreshadowing the events of not only Season 10, but the climactic Season 11 as well. This past season's Corridors of Time quest also hinted that a dark fate for Guardians is on the way to Destiny 2. Some have even pointed to that Season 9 cinematic and noticed that, at the end, Rasputin almost sounds like he says "darkness." Despite Rasputin's primary objective of defending humanity, the Warmind is known for having an adaptive learning ability focused specifically on its own survival. Many fans are theorizing that Rasputin may opt to save itself and/or align with the Darkness should humanity's last stand be coming soon.

Uncertain Futures in Destiny 2

Regardless of where Rasputin's allegiance truly lies, Season of the Worthy appears to be setting up the Warmind as the last defense against the meteoric Almighty flagship headed straight for Earth. Seasonal Activities for Season of the Worthy will likely involve Guardians preparing Rasputin's ordinance. These Seraph Bunkers and Towers will likely be part of the Warmind's militaristic defense network, which means Rasputin's defense installations will likely be used to destroy The Almighty with brute force.

Guardians will be tasked with arming these weapons to aim straight for the Cabal flagship, ending the Cabal once and for all. Even if the Cabal are truly defeated, with all of these hints being dropped about Darkness approaching, fans should be concerned about what's next in Destiny 2.

Whether the Warmind has enough firepower to destroy The Almighty, fans will soon find out as Season of the Worthy progresses. Until then, an uneasy alliance will need to be formed with an artificial intelligence that may not adhere to its primary directive.

Destiny 2 is out now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
