It has been over a year since Shadow of the Tomb Raider released to the PC, PS4, and Xbox One. The game serves as the final installment in the new Tomb Raider trilogy that sets to establish the origin story of video game icon Lara Croft before earning the title of the Tomb Raider.  Now, players who still haven't played the latest installment in the longstanding action-adventure franchise would be happy to know that Shadow of the Tomb Raider Definitive Edition is currently discounted right now for the PS4 as part of the PlayStation Store's deal of the week.

Players can purchase Shadow of the Tomb Raider Definitive Edition for $17.99, which is 70% off its original list price of $59.99. Players should note that this price will only be available until March 5, 2020. The game's Definitive Edition includes the base game and all seven DLC challenge tombs, together with downloadable weapons, outfits, and skills. Interestingly enough, Square Enix initially announced that Shadow of the Tomb Raider will be getting eight DLC tombs post-release. However, the missing eighth tomb never materialized, and the Definitive Edition of the game only indicated seven tombs, with the eighth being replaced by a bonus DLC outfit.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider was released in September of 2018 serving as the third installment to the new Tomb Raider reboot and the twelfth mainline entry in the franchise. The game is set shortly after the events of Rise of the Tomb Raider and follows the story of Lara Croft as she heads to the tropical regions of the Americas to stop the Mayan apocalypse she unleashed. The game's development began in 2015 immediately after the completion of its predecessor and Grey's Anatomy actress Camilla Luddington returned to provide the voice and motion-capture work for Lara Croft.

Despite minor flaws in its story and some gameplay mechanics, Shadow of the Tomb Raider received mostly positive reviews across the board thanks to the massive world it is set in that often felt alive making it enjoyable to explore. The game also offered tons of deadly puzzles to solve and tombs to raid, providing players a satisfying conclusion to Lara Croft's origin story.

Ever since the introduction of the first Tomb Raider game back in 1996, protagonist Lara Croft has since become one of the most iconic and recognizable video game characters of all time. Back then, female video game characters were uncommon, and it is without a doubt that Lara Croft ushered the increase of strong female characters and cemented their rightful place in video game history.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider is out now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
