Final Fantasy XI’s latest patch adds a new avatar and a new monster to Domain Invasions

Players are less than enthusiastic about that second part

The good news about the latest update for Final Fantasy XI is that no one is upset about Summoners gaining access to a new avatar, Siren. She has new tricks like party-wide Enaero, Aquaveil, and Elegy. She even unlocks via a new quest along the way, so that’s nice. Plus, Paladins are probably happy with their Rampart and Shield Bash changes, and Beastmaster seem to be happy with the reworked pet ability timers. No, it’s the addition of the new dragon Mireau to Domain Invasions that people seem unhappy with.

Mireau has a random chance to spawn during Domain Invasion when existing monsters have been wiped out, and the general consensus seems to be that the fight is just too hard for too little reward – especially after Domain Invasion had specifically been adjusted away from some of this challenge. It remains to be seen what, if anything, will change with the dragon in the future, but for the moment it’s a bit of a blemish on the game’s monthly patch record.
