Blizzard may have announced Diablo 4 at BlizzCon 2019, but that doesn't make the wait any easier. What does make the wait easier is the release of new, high-quality ARPGs. For those hoping to take a break from Path of Exile between patches, it looks like another exciting ARPG is about to launch. Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem is leaving Early Access on Steam starting tomorrow, February 13. To celebrate the occasion, Wolcen Studios put together an action-packed launch trailer.

Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem is in many ways a traditional ARPG, or at least modern idea of a traditional ARPG. Wolcen Studios has very clearly been heavily influenced by both Blizzard's Diablo 3 and Grinding Gear Games' Path of Exile. The result is that Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem looks and feels a lot like both of those games, while also striving to be something new. Nevertheless, at first glance, ARPG fans will recognize that the visual style of Wolcen isn't particularly unique.

While the first impression of Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem may not stand out, the full trailer gives a much broader look at what ARPG fans can expect from the game. For example, Wolcen has a huge, mature storyline with big cinematic videos spread throughout. It also features unique cinematic sequences like the player going up against a shield wall of enemies. Wolcen's combat also should start looking unique and inspired, as it features a much more deliberate and tactical style of action compared to how spammy Diablo 3 and Path of Exile can be.

Unlike either ARPG, Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem does not feature class limitations. Rather, there are 14 different weapon stances with each weapon having its own combat style. These weapons each interact with the player's energy resources, a yin-yang balance between Rage and Willpower. When one goes up, the other goes down, and vice versa. This standard resource system allows for an incredibly diverse range of customization, and that's not even bringing up the game's deep armor system.

Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem's launch trailer offers just a glimpse at the ARPG's full experience. Up until now, Wolcen's Steam Early Access has offered players just a single Act of story and a slice of the endgame. When it launches on February 13, its full three Acts and endgame, as well as features like co-op and crafting, will be available.

For those interested in picking up Wolcen, it's best to act fast. Currently, the Early Access price of Wolcen on Steam is $29.99. With the game's full launch tomorrow the price will be jumping up to $45. It's a tax for not trusting in the game's quality prior to launch. It may just be worth it, though, with Diablo 4 unlikely to launch in 2020.
