UPDATE: Bungie will be rolling back Destiny 2 accounts to the state they were in at 8:30 a.m. PST, prior to Hotfix 2.7.1.1. Maintenance is expected to conclude at 7 p.m. PST. Original story follows:

Bungie released Destiny 2 hotfix 2.7.1.1 to all platforms earlier today. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear as though the Destiny 2 update has gone as planned, as the popular looter-shooter game has been brought down for emergency maintenance.

It was clear that Destiny 2 console players were having difficulty with the update as soon as it was released. Bungie initially suggested that console players restart their game and try downloading the update. Not long after that, the studio confirmed that the Destiny 2 servers were being brought offline for emergency maintenance. And while some fans may be frustrated that the Destiny 2 servers are down, it's for a good reason.

Bungie has since explained why the Destiny 2 servers are down for emergency maintenance. It appears as though the missing currencies and materials issue that plagued the game a couple of weeks ago has resurfaced. Destiny 2 fans certainly don't want to risk losing their materials or in-game money, and so while some may be annoyed that they can't play, the emergency maintenance is for the best.

Bungie will be updating Destiny 2 players regularly on its Bungie Help Twitter page. For those wondering what Destiny 2 update 2.7.1.1 even did, it mainly addressed some technical issues like a problem with the Eververse Store that was selling things at the wrong place.

The Destiny 2 update for 2/11/2020 is also kicking off the Crimson Days event. For the uninitiated, the Destiny 2 Crimson Days event is an annual Valentine's Day celebration in the Destiny franchise. The event is marked by the special Crimson Doubles game mode, which will be available in Destiny 2 from now until the event concludes on February 18. However, it's possible that Bungie may extend the duration of the event depending on how long the Destiny 2 servers will be down today, though that is just speculation at this time.

Hopefully Bungie is able to resolve the ongoing issues with Destiny 2 since update 2.7.1.1 and restore the game to working order so fans have plenty of time to play through the Crimson Days event. We will update this post as soon as the Destiny 2 servers have come back online and players are once again able to jump into the game.

Destiny 2 is out now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
