PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds certainly made a splash when it first arrived, and kicked started a wave of battle royale styled games. Since then the title has continued to be one of the most popular games in the world. With this popularity, there have been international competitions with huge prizes. However, international competitions have been put on pause by the PUBG Corporation because of the "recently declared a global health emergency" that is the coronavirus.

Battle Royale games are incredibly popular, but PUBG has found its niche in realistic gaming and competitive survival. Since its release in 2017, the game has had numerous competitions and has an ongoing league. With its large audience and quality players, fans have been excited for the 2020 Global Series to begin in Berlin, but unfortunately, they will have to wait a little longer for the event.

The PUBG Corporation has informed fans that "with the health and safety of our players, employees, and fans as our top priorities, we've made the difficult decision to postpone April's PGS: Berlin event." There is yet to be a new date confirmed, but the rest of the plans for the year currently remain unchanged and the event is being actively reorganized. The company has stated that regional qualifiers may be affected by this decision and more news is to come. In the meantime, the title is still receiving new features. While PUBG is still adding plenty of content for players, those who want to watch the professionals compete may be slightly disappointed.

Fans may have wanted to see the event in April, but the health of players and viewers has to come first. The PUBG Corporation has undoubtedly made its decision for the right reasons and it would not be surprising to see other gaming events postpone. While there have been some complaints about battle royale games in the esports arena, they have been largely accepted and many fans will be worried about future events which they are looking forward to.

The PUBG Corporation has stated that it "will provide updates once we have a better understanding of the best options for esports fans" and this will likely be the case for other competitions as well. While a global health emergency is ongoing it is for everyone's benefit that competitions and releases are postponed. For now, fans will have to be patient as more news emerges about the coronavirus and the events that they are interested in.

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds is available now on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and mobile devices.
