With the release of last month's Pokemon Direct and Super Smash Bros Ultimate's DLC reveal stream, it appears Nintendo is using the first few months of this year to really cement its lineup for 2020. While it's already common knowledge that Animal Crossing and a number of Switch ports are coming fans way courtesy of the company, Nintendo still has a number of gaps to fill if it wants to be able to compete with the likes of the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X.
It seems that Nintendo might look to further reveal what players can expect from the Switch as soon as next month, with renowned leaker Sabi seemingly confirming that a new Direct will come sometime in the middle of March. This Direct will look to be slightly different than usual, however, with Sabi claiming it will be a Nindies Direct focused entirely on indie titles coming to the Switch.
Posted on the leaker's Twitter account, Sabi plainly writes "yes, there is a Nindies presentation in mid-March," before elaborating on his statement by claiming, "I do not have an exact date yet, but given it is in mid-March, it being around GDC like a few previous ones would make a lot of sense." However, the leaker does promise to "post more about it in the future, likely before March begins." With the broadcast likely to showcase some brand new games as well as some big Switch ports of past indie titles, it's hard to speculate on what could be shown. Yet, with Nintendo dedicating an entire Direct to it, the company is sure to have some big announcements none the less.
The last Nindies Direct took place in August last year, where the company unveiled Superhot, Ori and The Blind Forest: Definitive Edition, the Hotline Miami Collection, and many more. It was a big event for Nintendo, who took the time to highlight some of the biggest indie game offerings coming to the Switch that year.
Of course, many are still waiting for Nintendo to announce a bigger Direct with a number of this year's flagship titles. As it stands, 2020 is looking somewhat bare for the Switch, which clearly won't be the case in the long run as the console will look to compete against Sony and Microsoft's next-generation offerings come this holiday season. Hopefully, the Nindies showcase is the beginning of a series of incredible Directs that show off just how strong Nintendo's lineup will continue to be as it enters a brand new decade.
