Another scene featuring Android 21 has been discovered in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot that adds further context to the character's past, Android 21 being the original character created for the Dragon Ball FighterZ fighting game from Arc System Works. At the time, Android 21 and her backstory was considered non-canon, but her addition to Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot complicates the matter. Players are still piecing together what may become Android 21's canon role in the Dragon Ball universe.

The newest discovery shows a player discovering Android 21 in the open world of Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot. She doesn't have a quest, which makes her somewhat more difficult to find. She's simply standing at a cliffside looking over. The cliffside, however, is rather important. It's the location where the villainous Dr. Gero's lab used to be before it was destroyed early in the Cell Saga. Android 21 is looking down at the ruined area. She appears to have a text prompt, but what she says isn't noted.

This isn't the first time players have encountered Android 21 in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot. She was also discovered, of all places, in Dr. Briefs' lab. Dr. Briefs is Bulma's father and a scientist of some renown. Android 21 appears to be assisting him with his work upgrading the gravity training facility that Vegeta used after the end of the Frieza Saga. How Android 21's role as an assistant to Dr. Briefs fits into her backstory isn't clear.

What is known about Android 21 from Dragon Ball FighterZ is haphazard. She's an android said to be much like Cell, in that she built and/or takes in information from others to become more powerful. Who made her isn't clear or when she was made also isn't clear, but some information is known about the person she was before she became and android. She was apparently the mother of a boy who looked much like Android 16. She's also insinuated to be the wife of Dr. Gero, who would then be the father of the boy Android 16's based on. That explains why Android 21 might want to see Dr. Gero's destroyed lab.

To sum up, the new Android 21 moment from Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot adds to the character that Dragon Ball FighterZ players are already familiar with. It's an Android who likely was in a relationship with Dr. Gero in her human life considering the wreckage of his lab. It does bring up questions as to when Android 21 was created, as this scene takes place prior to the Cell Games. It doesn't answer that question, however. It also doesn't answer why Android 21 was assisting Dr. Briefs. Perhaps there's more to be discovered about Android 21's backstory.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
