With the success of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, it appears EA is considering more single player games in its future plans for the Star Wars franchise. After a record-setting launch, Fallen Order reached the high end of its 6-to-8 million unit sales target, and now EA is poised to "continue with depth and breadth across the Star Wars IP."

This news comes from EA's quarterly conference call for investors, where CEO Andrew Wilson and CFO Blake Jorgensen talk about the game, and the future of Star Wars for the company. On the call, Wilson not only discusses sales but also heaps praise on Respawn Entertainment, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order's developer. He says "Respawn delivered an expertly crafted, high-quality experience with outstanding gameplay that thrilled players..." which is clearly high praise. Though this is a conference call meant to woo investors, this does seem to indicate a positive working relationship between the two companies. Respawn has also expressed interest in continuing work on the Star Wars franchise, so it seems as though the pieces are in place to produce more single player, narrative-driven Star Wars games going forward.

Wilson sees Fallen Order as "one of the strongest catalog sellers for the company" in the coming years, confident that the game will be a big draw when EA moves it into its Access subscription program later on. Though he is coy about revealing more concrete details on future plans, between his glowing talk on the state of Fallen Order and Respawn posting job listings for a "third person action/adventure game," another single-player Star Wars game seems inevitable.

The Star Wars media empire is entering a new era, with Episode 9 bringing an end to the Skywalker Saga. When transitions like this happen, the rumor mill begins to churn out all kinds of speculation. Any little detail that emerges in an earnings call, or a tip from an informant hinting that a video game might lead off the next Star Wars saga, feeds into fans excitement for what may come next.

The news that Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order exceeded sales targets is good for fans who had a blast with the game and are looking for more. Just what that 'more' might be is anyone's guess at this point, but with the next saga rumored to take place in the High Republic Era, there's a lot of uncharted territory to explore in the Star Wars universe.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
