With the calendar turning over to February, there's likely one thing on many gamers' minds: the PS5 reveal event. All rumors have pointed toward a big PS5 event happening sometime in this month, though there are conflicting dates. Some say the PS5 reveal event will happen on February 5, mere days from now, whereas others have pointed to dates near the end of the month. Currently, it's unknown when it will take place, and each day makes February 5 seem less and less likely. What is known is that, if the event does occur, various games will be there, reportedly including God of War developer Santa Monica Studio.

To recap, there's nothing official known about the PS5 event, but many consider it the worst kept secret of the gaming industry. There's previous patterns, such as the PS4 reveal event back in the day, and bookings that all indicate it is the truth. And if it is getting revealed to the world, there's bound to be a couple of games to do so with. One recent rumor indicated that God of War developer Santa Monica Studio will be there to show a game, but it's not the game many are expecting.

As it stands, next to nothing is known about what Santa Monica Studio is officially working on, but there's no doubt hype behind it. God of War was an instant classic, and many consider it one of the best PS4 exclusives out there.  It only makes sense to continue this trend with PS5 exclusives, which are presumably what the studio is working on. As such, there's two possible titles that could be currently in the works: God of War 2 and Legendz.

God of War 2

Santa Monica Studio has never outright claimed that God of War 2 is in development, but due to the aforementioned success, it's practically a guarantee. God of War's critical and commercial success, as well as the narrative cliff-hanger it ended on, basically begs for there to be a sequel. In fact, it seems safe to say that God of War 2 would be a console-seller; many would flock to the PS5 just to get their hands on the sequel. There is, of course, plenty of other reasons to invest in a PS5, but if God of War 2 was a launch title or even came out sometime in 2021, as many rumors indicate, it would push a decision by gamers just knowing that it exists.

For now, fans will have to wait and see if there is an announcement, which will seem likelier if the PS5 reveal event is a real thing. God of War director Cory Barlog is reportedly hard at work on something, so hopefully, God of War 2 is mixed in there somewhere.

But while the simple answer to what Santa Monica Studio is working on is God of War 2, there's a new title floating around now: Legendz. It's worth mentioning that it has only been mentioned in a single rumor, so this should be taken with the proper grain of salt. However, if true, then presumably Santa Monica Studio is working on it and God of War 2.

A new console generation means new IPs, and while Legendz may not be God of War 2, it would be a huge start to have 2 Santa Monica Studio properties on the platform not long after its release. There is the possibility that only Legendz, not God of War 2, is in development, but that doesn't seem likely. After all, Sony and Santa Monica are likely aware that God of War 2 would likely be a cash cow, so there's plenty of commercial and critical push for it to be in development.

Needless to say, the idea that the God of War developer is working on two titles, not just one, is an intriguing prospect. And the world may know exactly how that intends to be worked out sooner rather than later, should the PS5 event be confirmed in the coming days or weeks.

God of War is out now, exclusively on the PS4.
