As the biggest online battle royale game on the market right now, Fortnite has seen many updates in the past (as well as a few fake map leaks), and now the latest one has just arrived. Developer Epic Games has just rolled out update 2.54 across all platforms, and with it comes the latest patch notes.

This new update snuck up on many fans, as Fortnite's official social media accounts gave no warning about a new update dropping on January 29th. Most fans were also waiting for the larger 11.50 patch that is expected to come out sometime next week, so no one really expected a smaller update to pop up before then.

The download and install size for this newest patch is 1 GB, though the size may vary slightly depending on the platform. The general changes made include the Goalbound Set Outfits now having the number in front instead of the back, probably due to weapons covering up player's backs. The issue players had with scrolling and selecting Friends in the Social menu, however, still hasn't been resolved. The patch notes mention it will be fixed in a future update, hopefully the 11.50 patch due next week or maybe in the Birds of Prey x Fortnite event with Harley Quinn.

As with many of Fortnite's previous updates, there were a few changes made to Battle Royale as well. Ziplines have been temporarily disabled due to an issue, and players can no longer edit structures while looking straight down. No doubt these changes will leave more than a few players upset. "Unintentionally editing building pieces through floors" has apparently been fixed. The bug in which players pick up DBNO teammates when trying to switch to the Pickaxe, however, has not been fixed, though Epic Games promises to resolve the issue in a future update, possibly with the start of Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 2.

There have also been a couple of somewhat disappointing changes to Creative mode. Particles and beacons can no longer be customized or interacted with, and some featured Islands are now missing their in-game descriptions.

Those are all the changes detailed in the patch notes, but dataminer ShiinaBR found a few more changes hidden in the game. These unannounced changes include a new "Freemix" emote (which some fans have speculated could be the winner of the Fortnite TikTok Challenge), Super Bowl styles for the football Goalbound skins, and "several updates for Save the World." Fortnite's social media accounts still haven't said anything about these new changes, so its possible the changes made in this patch are just a sneak preview of what's to come in the next big update.

Fortnite is currently available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and mobile devices. Update 2.54 is now available across all platforms.
