With The Lord Of The Rings receiving a major TV adaptation in the near future, it’s safe to say, if the show is a success, the talent behind the camera are set to have a massive surge in their career prospects. Much like Game Of Thrones did for David Benioff and D.B Weiss, a show this potentially influential will allow the minds behind it to take their pick of new projects when it’s all wrapped up. It’s clear one of the show's writers already has an idea of where she’d go after The Lord Of The Ringsand it would no doubt make a lot of video game fans very happy.

Posted by Lord Of The Rings writer Gennifer Hutchison on Twitter, it appears the screenwriter would love to adapt the world of Arkane’s Dishonored series to screen. The post sees Hutchison jokingly crying out, “Let me write a Dishonored TV series, you cowards”, inciting many fans and other writers to discuss the potential of the beloved steampunk stealth-action franchise on screen.

Jokes aside, it goes without saying that Dishonored has a lot of potential if brought to the screen as a TV series. Not only is the game’s steampunk world beautiful and still largely unexplored, but the stories that weave through it are also laced with blood-soaked revenge, explosive magical powers, and an otherworldly creepiness. It would be unlike any other TV show currently on the market, and with a good writer on board to make sure the show was adapted faithfully, it could make for one of the most unique narratives currently on television. Seen as Dishonored is currently taking a break as well, there’s a lot of room for the show to revive and expand on the mythos of the world in its absence.

Responses to the post seem incredibly positive to the idea, whether it was meant as a joke or a genuine proposition. Fellow writer Mitch Dyer tweeted “seriously. I would do despicable things to work on this”, while a fan states “You can have a dump truck filled with every cent I have if that happens.” Clearly the idea of a show set in the Dishonored universe is an idea lorded by many.

Alongside support for the series, a number of writers also took to the post to discuss their ideas for other  TV adaptations of popular video games. One responds “YES! But only if I can write a BioShock TV series!” while another jokingly cites that he’ll start working on a “Stardew Valley family drama.”

Dishonored 2 is out now for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
