Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot retells the Z story with an impressive amount of accuracy, mostly only changing certain details to better explain the story. This is the case for the major Piccolo retcon and the re-introduction of Launch to the game, though it does take some liberties with the existence of Android 21 and Mira. Still, this is nothing that breaks canon. And while this accuracy and dedication is to be lauded, it creates one problem that many would like to see resolved: Vegito. NOTE: This article contains SPOILERS for Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot.
As many know, Vegito's tenure in the overarching story is relatively short. It is immediately said that using the Potara rings would permanently fuse the two characters who use it, namely Vegeta and Goku in this case, but that is later retconned in Dragon Ball Super and slightly explains how the two characters de-fuse in the original anime. Nonetheless, Goku refuses to make the fusion with Vegeta, citing his Saiyan pride (making Vegeta simultaneously proud) and meaning that, for Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, he's a fan-favorite but briefly used character.
Even if it does slightly break canon, allowing fans to play as Vegito in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot again would indubitably be a bit of welcomed fan service. There's theoretically a number of ways this could be done, as limiting his appearances, adding a fusion mechanic, or somehow implementing the titular Dragon Balls, but perhaps the easiest is in a forthcoming update. As usual, Bulma has a fix.
At the end of Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, Bulma builds a time machine and brings Future Trunks back to the presence, once again allowing players to take control of the character. This time machine is said to be a way to go back and complete skipped substories, a way to introduce new substories to the game, and potentially a way to add DLC to DBZ: Kakarot down the road. Theoretically, however, it could be used to put players in control of Vegito again.
Vegito's role is limited in the Buu Saga, and understandably so. Yet, if players would be able to go back to the Buu Saga in order to complete substories, why not allow for those substories to be completed by Vegito. It still wouldn't be as open as a standard DBZ: Kakarot playable character, as there would be the limitations of the saga to consider, but fans could then stretch out their legs, complete substories, and fight enemies, all while as the most powerful character in DBZ: Kakarot.
Now, it's worth mentioning that the exact details of Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot's Time Machine haven't been ironed out. How it works exactly could be a determining factor here, but even with these most plausible limitations, it wouldn't hurt for Vegito to be available to some degree in services to the fans. Ultimately, this is just mere speculation, so it remains to be seen if Vegito ever gets a bigger role, how the Time Machine works exactly, and what all can actually be done with it in DBZ: Kakarot.
Either way, giving fans of the franchise more options like this would go a long way for the life of Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot and would supplement further play after beating Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot. At the very least, Vegito is a good option to showcase prior to the release of potential DLC content.
