Captain Tsubasa Rise Of New Champions Is Bringing Sports Anime To Consoles

If you’re an anime fan then you’ll want to watch out for Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions, a new sporting title coming to Playstation 4 this year.

Fans of Haikyu and other similarly active endeavors might very well be in for a treat. Dispatching with the hyper realistic dribbling physics of EA’s FIFA franchise, Captain Tsubasa fuses together over the top anime action with friendly sporting competition. Loosely based around a Japanese manga, this new game takes to the pitch with a swagger that screams talent. The announcement trailer is awash with bright colors, anime aesthetics that Namco has come to perfect of late, and some outrageous footballing skill.

A Long Second Half

After ten years away fro consoles, this new entry into the series is about to kick off an entirely different type of match. As players tear up and down the pitch you are more likely to see explosive offensive action as teams clash. Powerful defensive moves tear up the colorful pitch and animated tigers roar the protagonist on as players level up their attack. This isn’t a game for anybody looking to deftly curl a shot into the back of the net, and that is not a surprise. The original manga showed off equally flamboyant moves hen it hit shelves back in 1981. Over the course of 37 Shonen Jump volumes, readers from across Japan followed Tsubasa and his friends as they played their way to success and made a massive impact on associated football in Japan.

Bandai has confirmed that this won’t just look the part. Rise of new Champions will feature a narrative arc that is faithful to the series as well as online and offline modes to boot. It’s yet another Shonen title for Bandai Namco and seems to be an anime franchise that could score a hit for them. After games like Dragon Ball Fighterz, Jump Force, and Code Vein  I wonder if the publisher could botch an anime tie in if they tried.  If you loved Mario strikers then keep an eye out for Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions coming to PC, Playstation 4, and Nintendo Switch later this year. You can keep up to date on the official Bandai Namco website on the lead up to kick off.
