Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is a pretty awesome homage to the anime that many gamers grew up loving. In fact, it appears that the game has drawn enough attention to bring it all the way to the top of the sales charts, at least as far as the UK is concerned. It's a surprisingly big achievement for what some assumed would be a niche game.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot hasn't been out long, but it was popular enough to be the number one selling game in the UK for the third week of January, according to Ukie, an interactive entertainment association for the UK. Kakarot was one of the most anticipated games of 2020, so its understandable that the game has sold so well. It managed to beat out Modern Warfare for the top slot, which has had a streak of success since launch.

The UK is a pretty major market in terms of game sales, but it will be interesting to see how the game performs in the US. Dragon Ball Z is an incredibly popular anime in the United States, and while Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is missing some major anime moments, the game's story follows the show's arcs pretty closely.

So far, Kakarot has been pretty well-received by the Dragon Ball Z fandom. Surprisingly, the game is currently eligible for a buy 2 get one free promotion at Target, so gamers that have been meaning to stock up on games may want to consider picking it up that way. After recent delays, the game release window is actually fairly clear, so it may be a good time to go back and pick up some older titles.

Dragon Ball Z may prove to be an incredibly successful game if sales keep up the way they are. There are plenty of Dragon Ball Z games that deserve remakes, so maybe the success of Kakarot will inspire Bandai Namco to rerelease some of the older titles. If not, at least players can always go back and binge-watch the anime anytime they feel the need to. Until then, they should have plenty of Kakarot to rip through.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
