Ever since the ending of God of War left players with such an intense cliff hanger, fans have been waiting patiently for the return of Kratos and Atreus. Now, it seems that the next installment in the God of War franchise might be closer than fans may have initially anticipated, as a narrative animator at SIE Santa Monica Studios has teased development of the next entry.

God of War is the latest installment in the award-winning Sony franchise, which has gained universal acclaim both critically and commercially since its release. It also won Game of the Year at the Game Awards 2018, with this game being hailed as the PS4's crowing achievement and a mainstay for any person that owns one.

It seems like SIE Santa Monica Studios may have finally begun production on a new God of War entry based on a Tweet from one of their narrative animators. In the Tweet, narrative animator Kim Newman, included a picture of her in a motion capture suit and mentioned SIE Santa Monica Studios. There have always been rumors and purported news that the second God of War was in development, but now it appears that this photo could be more solid proof, given Newman's involvement with the first game.

Having said that, nothing has been confirmed or denied by SIE Santa Monica Studios or Cory Barlog, the lead director of God of War. The picture of Newman in the MoCap suit also doesn't mean that the motion capture work she's doing is necessarily for a new God of War game. Not to mention that cryptic Tweet that Cory Barlog sent out back in November teasing some kind of new game, so there's no telling if the work that Kim Newman is doing in the photo is for that game and not God of War.

To be perfectly honest, fans would love to see a new installment, and there's already so many places a new God of War game could take players in terms of its story and world. Not to mention the unending potential for Kratos' son Atreus, whose surface has barely been scratched in terms of character development.

God of War is out now, exclusively for the PS4.
