Kites soared and fireworks burst overhead last night in Lord of the Rings Online, as the player community gathered together to pay tribute to the life of J.R.R. Tolkien’s son. Christopher Tolkien passed away yesterday at the age of 95, marking the end of a life spent protecting and completing his father’s literary work.
Corey Olsen, the “Tolkien Professor” who conducts weekly lectures in the MMO, posted his condolences: “I’ve just recently heard that Christopher Tolkien has died. So ends the watch of a man who without question fulfilled his quest. A more faithful and diligent steward of Middle-earth no one could have asked for. We owe him a tremendous and incalculable debt.”
